Ambassador of Timor-Leste pays a courtesy call to TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING
March 25, 2025
On 10 March, H.E. Mr. Ilidio Ximenes da Costa, Ambassador of Timor-Leste, Mr. Joao Mendonca, Labour Attache, and Ms. NAKAMURA Misako, Senior Assistant from the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Japan, paid a courtesy visit to TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING. The purpose of this visit was to encourage the technical trainees from Timor-Leste who arrived in Japan in January of this year.
The 10 technical intern trainees, representing the initial cohort of trainees, and the executives of the TSUNEISHI Business Cooperative, which collaboratively accepts trainees for designated skills, extended a cordial welcome to the ambassadors at the main gate of the TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING factory. During the subsequent meeting, Mr. Yoshioka, President of the TSUNEZO COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION, extended a formal welcome to the Ambassadors and their delegation, recalled the signing ceremony with the Secretary of State for Timor-Leste in January 2023, and expressed his expectations for the technical intern trainees.
Ambassador Mr. Iridio Ximénez da Costa, Timor-Leste, expressed his gratitude for the acceptance of the trainees, saying, ‘I hope that the cooperation between TSUNEISHI and Timor-Leste established by this acceptance will be strengthened and that the skills acquired in shipbuilding welding and painting will be developed in a wide range of fields and lead to cooperation. We plan to send the second phase of technical trainees in July 2025. We hope that the first batch of trainees will continue to work hard and pave the way for the next batch of trainees’. The ambassadors then observed the practical training and saw the welding centre as an example of the progress being made in skills acquisition.
At a dinner held on the same day, the Ambassador encouraged the trainees to act with courtesy and sincerity as representatives of their country, and to acquire skills such as ‘If you have any questions at work, do not hesitate to ask your instructors, spare no effort to adapt to the new environment, observe Japanese laws and regulations, and be humble in your attitude to learning’. He also encouraged them to act with courtesy as representatives of their country and to acquire skills with integrity. The trainees expressed their gratitude to the Ambassador and highlighted their prior welding skills in their respective countries, emphasising their familiarity with Japanese technology, the high-performance tools and safety equipment utilised at the TSUNEISHI factory, and the pervasive safety culture. The exchange proved to be productive, with the Ambassador expressing his aspiration for the training centre in Timor-Leste to be similarly equipped with such a safe working environment.
TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING is committed to cooperate in further promoting the global shipbuilding industry and will continue to support the development of the shipbuilding industry in Timor-Leste and the training of shipbuilding engineers and personnel who will contribute to the development of new industries.
