February 12, 2025
Yura Dockyard conducted a factory tour for students from KIOKAN High School in Wakayama Prefecture on 28 January 2025. The visit was part of the “Human Resource Development Project to Support Industry” promoted by Wakayama Prefecture to improve the employment rate of high school students in the prefecture and was conducted to promote understanding of the company among local high school students.
On the day, 31 students from the 2nd grade of the Industrial Technology Course took part in the tour. After receiving an overview of the Yura Dockyard and an explanation of its operations, the students observed the vessels repaired on the premises from the wharf. Afterwards, on-site employees gave a lecture on the mechanism of vessel engines at the yard, and the students were given a tour of the yard, where the maintenance work is actually carried out, so that they could get a first-hand understanding of the company’s work. The participating industrial technology students had a deep interest in machinery and manufacturing, and asked many questions to our employees, such as ‘How many people are needed for maintenance work’ and ‘What tools and machines are used’, creating a friendly atmosphere.
Employees from various departments participated in this tour as lecturers, explaining the shipbuilding industry and its operations. Yura Dockyard continues to contribute to the understanding of the shipbuilding industry and the development of human resources by providing educational opportunities as part of its contribution to the local community.
