TSUNEISHI IRON WORKS Received the World’s First Case of Certificate for Approval of Manufacturers from ClassNK for Propeller Shafts and Intermediate Shafts for Vessels

January 27, 2025

TSUNEISHI IRON WORKS Co., Ltd. (Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan) announced to receive the certification for Approval of Manufacturers for vessel of propeller shafts and intermediate shafts from the Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereafter ‘ClassNK’) on December 4th, 2024. ClassNK approved for manufacturer of propeller shafts and intermediate shafts for vessels is the first case in the world as of January 2025.

Until now propeller shafts and intermediate shafts for vessels manufactured by TSUNEISHI IRON WORKS have been subject to certification inspections by each classification society for each product. We were aware of the problems with this inspection method from the point of view of manpower shortages and operational improvements and with this background, we stepped up our efforts to acquire the certification. TSUNEISHI IRON WORKS was valued for our production with constant quality over many years and for the proper operation of our quality control system.

With this approval, efficient inspections by a combination of on-site inspection by ClassNK and self-inspection by TSUNEISHI IRON WORKS have been achieved, and various operational improvements will be expected including reduced time and costs related to inspections.

TSUNEISHI IRON WORKS continues to be committed to improving quality and productivity in order to provide customers with higher-quality shaft products in the future.
