TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Donates Research Equipment to Hiroshima University to Commemorate 20 Years of Joint Research – Upgraded Wave Generator for Towing Tank and Renovated Measurement Room Enhance Maritime Research –
TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING has commemorated the 20th anniversary of its joint research with Hiroshima University by renewing the wave generator in the towing tank and renovating the hydrodynamic testing room within the university’s Faculty of Engineering. A commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on 26 June 2025.

Since entering into a comprehensive research collaboration agreement with the Graduate School of Engineering at Hiroshima University in 2004, TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING expanded the partnership to include the entire university in 2019. In 2024, the collaboration marked its 20th year, with continued joint research in a wide range of areas including vessel performance, structures, outfitting, the environment, and shipbuilding. These efforts have leveraged both the university’s advanced experimental facilities and the company’s shipyards and vessels under construction. Beyond marine engineering, the partnership also actively promotes interdisciplinary academic and personnel exchange throughout the university.

This latest upgrade expresses TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING’s gratitude for the longstanding partnership and aims to further advance collaborative research. The new wave generator and renovated measurement facilities will enable cutting-edge studies to improve ship performance and ride comfort in wave conditions, paving the way for new research developments between the company and the university.
TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING remains committed to strengthening ties with educational and research institutions, promoting the appeal of the shipbuilding industry, and contributing to public understanding and the development of the next generation of maritime professionals.
