Receive first order for methanol-fueled TESS66 AEROLINE bulk carrier

TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING received the first order for methanol-heavy oil dual-fuel 65,700 dwt TESS66 AEROLINE (*1) (hereafter “TESS66”) bulk carrier.

In addition to taking advantages of the TESS66’s large cargo capacity and fuel efficiency, by using methanol fuel, the vessel can be operated with low environmental impact. The vessel is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.

By uniquely developing the shape of the methanol fuel tank mounted on the upper deck at the stern and improving the arrangement and shape of the accommodation to enhance the practicality of methanol fuel, the large capacity of the tank is achieved.

This makes sufficiently long shipping operation possible by using methanol fuel.

Compared to heavy oil fuel, the use of methanol fuel can reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 80%, sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions by 99% and CO2 emissions by 10%.

In addition, the use of green methanol (*2), a carbon-neutral fuel helps reduce the environmental impact.

The methanol fuel storage tank is installed at the stern to maintain safety and ease of cargo handling.

While taking over the the largest loading capacity that TESS66 features in the Ultramax (*3) category, the vessel has a large cargo capacity of 81,500㎥ at 65,700 dwt.

The fuel efficiency is improved by adopting the fuel-efficient main engine and our unique AEROLINE design to reduce wind resistance.

Sachio Okumura, President of TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING said:

“Following the methanol-fueled KAMSARMAX, by achieving the use of methanol fuel to the TESS66 AEROLINE bulk carrier, we will be able to provide our mainstream bulk carriers powered by methanol fuel. We will continue to promote further practical application of methanol-powered vessels and become a front-runner in addressing environmental issues.”
