“TSUNEISHI Technical Olympics (Tsuneishi Factory)”
Technical skills competition held on November 1st

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Company of TSUNEISHI Holdings Corporation (Head Office: 1083 Tsuneishi Numakuma-cho Fukuyama-city Hiroshima, CEO: Katsushige Kambara) will hold the “TSUNEISHI Technical Olympics” from 8 a.m. on November 1st (Sat.) at Tsuneishi Factory. Participants will compete at technical skills crucial to shipbuilding, including such skills as welding, coating painting, and carrying. Under the theme “Dissemination” 10 kinds of competitions for skills including welding and coating painting will be held (See attached sheet for kinds of competitions).

The Tsuneishi Technical Olympics started in 2001 to showcase welding skills. In the second year, ironworking skills were added to the program of competition. In the third year, coating painting, rigging, and carrying skills were also added and the Olympics became a major event for the whole factory. In 2008, about 210 participants will compete at the Tsuneishi factory. On November 3rd (Monday and national holiday), Tadotsu factory (Tadotsu town in Kagawa prefecture) will also hold a Technical Olympics.

Any media wishing to cover the event will be very welcome to attend.

【Categories of Competition】

Small steel assemble weldingAssembling and welding steel as one part of shipbuilding blocks
Welding legs of designated lengthWelding at the designated measurement.
Slinging operationSelect appropriate sling device (wire rope) for a load. With a flag signal and whistle, accurately sling and move the load with a ceiling crane.
Wiring and connecting cables for a three-way switch, using VVF codeWire and connect the cables and circuits using a three-way switch, competing for time and accuracy.
Throwing a heaving ropeThrow a heaving rope which used for mooring the ship to the pier, competing for accuracy.
GougingSeparate a welded two-piece board using a gas meltdown device and a gas housing. Compete for speed and finishing.
WeldingWeld a test piece using CO2 welding and arc welding. Compete for finishing time.
Wiring and wire connectionWiring and connecting wires for electrical device according to a designated plan.
Polishing a block3-man teams compete at foundation coat finishing for painting a built block.
Coating spray3-man teams perform to spray coating on the built block.

【Competition for Public】

Visual estimation of weight, height, and lengthCompete to visually estimate the weight of welded steel and the length of wire. The competitions listed above are for registered technical workers but this competition is open to anyone wishing to participate.
