The Philippines-Japan Investment Forum by Aboitiz InfraCapital Economic Estates was held on Thursday, 3 October 2024 at the Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioi Conference Seminar Room in Kioicho, Tokyo. The event was organised in cooperation with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Also in attendance were the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Japan, H.E. Mylene Garcia-Albano, and the Director General, Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), Mr. Tereso O. Pang extended messages of gratitude to Japanese investors and companies for their past investments and of the good relationship between the two countries.
The forum included presentations on a range of topics, including the promotion of trade between the Philippines and Japan by high-ranking Philippine government officials, initiatives by JETRO, the latest information on preferential measures by PEZA, and investment opportunities in the Philippines. Furthermore, Marubeni Corporation and TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING, which have been operating in the Philippines for a considerable period of time, presented case studies. Mr. Hitoshi Kono, Representative Director, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING presented its shipbuilding business in the Philippines and illustrated how it has grown in conjunction with the local community.
In the panel discussion, TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING first highlighted that 30 years ago, the business environment was significantly different from today. They expressed gratitude to the Aboitiz family for their cooperation in setting up THI; TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU). Furthermore, they highlighted that they have been able to continue their business to this day, and for enabling THI to employ excellent Filipino staff. He extended an invitation to companies contemplating future investment in the Philippines.
TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING and THI will continue to collaborate with the Philippine government to drive economic growth and contribute to the region.
