So Charming! Summer Kimono Event: Trainees from a Tsuneishi Shipbuilding overseas group company experience Japanese culture

August 28, 2015

TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. (headquartered at Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan) held its Summer Kimono Event on July 28, 2015 for four trainees from its overseas group company TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. (Cebu Island, the Philippines). The TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. Overseas Operation Dept. Business Administration & Overseas Operation Div. has held the Summer Kimono Event since 2012 as an opportunity to learn about traditional Japanese culture, and this year marks the fourth time.
An employee who is certified as a kimono dresser served as instructor at the Tsuneishi Community Center located near the Head Office. After learning the difference between western clothing and summer kimono, each trainee chose a summer kimono to her liking and experienced putting it on. They then went to Bella Vista Spa & Marina Onomichi and took photos in The Lobby and The Deck. Photos were also taken with staff from their training departments to commemorate their training at the Head Office.
Participant Richelyn Yntig was delighted with her first summer kimono encounter. “Experiencing the culture of another country is very fun and delightful,” she said. “Learning how to wear a summer kimono is the most unforgettable experience of my stay in Japan. I sensed subtlety in the care that the Japanese take to beautifully and perfectly wear kimono.”
