TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING and Hiroshima University have been continuing the joint research for eleven years since the program started in June 2004. Research activities are being conducted in the four fields of performance, structure, outfitting, and environment. The findings from this joint research have been adopted in multiple areas of the newly developed TESS58 AEROLINE (58,000-ton class bulk carrier) ship completed this March, such as the streamlined bow for reducing wind resistance, and a stern with high propulsion efficiency. Research will focus not only on increasing the performance of the ship, but also on enhancing the work environment of the crew, such as reducing the noise in the accommodation space and the engine room.

Professor Hiroki Yasukawa of the Graduate School of Engineering at Hiroshima University commented, “I am grateful for the fact that our joint research with TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING has been continuing for more than ten years. One of the reasons why we started this joint research was because we wished to have our technological knowledge put into good use in the real world. I am very happy that the results of our research are being implemented into actual ships that are being built. All of us will continue to put our best effort, working both rigorously and vigilantly, in our subsequent research.”
