Installation of BWMS to existing ships is being endorsed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which adopted the Ballast Water Management Convention for the preservation of biodiversity. This Convention will come into force one year after being ratified by 30 countries, and the total of the world’s merchant shipping tonnage is over 35%. Currently, 44 countries ratified the Convention, and the world merchant shipping tonnage has reached 32.86% (as of March 24, 2015).

TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING will develop the market in retrofitting ships for BWMS (which is said to be a 2~3 trillion market) by comparing different manufacturers’ BWMS performance based on capacity and installation space, as well as by calculating the retrofitting expenses and lifecycle costs, in order to continue offering the most appropriate and economically efficient BWMS retrofit projects that are in line with the ship’s operating schedule.
